Montessori School

Above is a recent reunion (circa 2001) of some of the montessori school people; friends, teachers, parents and pupils, at Charleen's house in Bristol.
'I went to the Montessori school. I hated it. We used to sing, ‘The river is a-flowing…’ They used to just want to talk about your feelings all the time. I was only four. I got out of it. I remember hating it. You'd sit around with tambourines and bang them…I didn’t like the other kids…I was a bit of an arsehole…I just liked to be nasty to people…Dunno why…I got a load of rosehips and cut them up and put them down people’s backs! As if to say, ‘that’s what I think of your emotions!’ (LJ, 2006)

I have fond memories of my time at Montessori School. Both at Albro Castle, and where it was before (where was that?): being able to choose which class or activity i wanted to take part in; taking rubbings of grave stones (!); listening to loud Reggae (i think Steve was responsible for this) in one of the big rooms upstairs at Albro; the Adder snakes that were found in one of the shed rooms downstairs (i think they were released on the Brecon somewhere!); being given a rubber plant to look after - i'm still keen on them now, go-karting - did Biggles break our yellow one?
Then the misery of being one of the older kids at 7 years old, who suddenly started having to go to maths classes and working with the abucuses (sp?) - i remember running screaming from these and wanting to join Jethro who could still do whatever he wanted! Ironically, i loved maths later....
Recently found out that i work with a fellow ex Albro student, Naomi Sharp, we'd been working at the same place here in Bristol for a couple of years before finding this out. How mad is that? There can only have been 20-30 kids there! She's a couple of years younger than me, and we didn't recognise each other.
Be great to see some of the old photos - Steve, i know you've got some good ones from then, can you send them in?
I have fond (but very vague)memories of the Montessori School- I was very little at the time. I remember playing on a rockery with a mini tree at the top, kiddie sized kitchen stuff, and being able to choose what to do in classes.
